Business: Joseph Business School to Start in September

Bill Winston founder of Living Word Christian Center and Joseph School of Business. A branch of the school is starting in Buffalo led by New Creation Fellowship, President Pastor Andzel and Director Steve Grant

By Kyle Patterson
“The vision is twofold,” explains Dr. Bill Winston, founder of the Joseph School of Business and Living Word Christian Center— “First to eliminate joblessness and boost the economy, then also to preserve those communities. A lot of communities where our schools are, are in urban centers. Let’s bring some skilled jobs back in here and create some entrepreneurs that have a vision.” That is the heart beat behind the new branch of the Joseph Business School starting this September at New Creation Fellowship on Genesee Street in Cheektowaga.
The branch in Buffalo’s vision is to educate Christians on how to become successful entrepreneurs and business leaders using biblical principles. The goal is to produce entrepreneurs who will be able to receive God's direction and blessing so that they will be a blessing to the community, the nation, and the world to such an extent that the world will recognize that they are under the anointing of God. The Joseph Business School with branch locations around the country, many times are situated in urban areas where manufacturing has moved out years before. The goal of course is to restore cities with skilled jobs coming back to the areas. Winston cited the fact that billions of dollars have been outsourced that could be putting people back to work. This he explains is the opportunity—see God’s restoration power, doing it biblically and ministering to what Dr. Winston describes as the whole man.
Pastor Andzel, who along with school director and businessman Steve Grant took the lead in bringing the Buffalo chapter to town believe the education system is in crisis, so they are putting vision and resources behind reshaping education from a Christ centered biblical perspective. Andzel believes this Joseph School will help prepare believers as job creators, “The education system has not done its job. The level of education that our kids are receiving will not empower them for the jobs in the next ten years. Something has to be done in the education system and reach kids at a young age—teaching and preparing them for the future. We want to give them the tools they need to be successful as entrepreneurs or whatever it is that God has called them to be. I believe with all my heart that the Church is to be the education system for our children.” Dr. Winston adds, “We are not going to leave God out of the education system which has been a characteristic of the Babylonian system. God is intimately integrated into our everyday lives, and that is the Kingdom of God.” School Director Steve Grant believes there are great opportunities ahead for those who enroll, he is expecting businesses to start, resources to be made available and promises of God to be fulfilled. It’s time for the Church to arise. For information on the school and to sign up visit www.jbsbuffalo.com.

Missions: Crisis Response International Training & Deploying Gospel Centered Disaster Missionaries.

While the scale and scope of disasters and international crisis steadily rise there is a new breed of missionary being trained and raised up to reach the harvest in the midst of crisis. Crisis Response International (CRI) and Executive Director Sean Malone are embracing the call and training literally hundreds upon hundreds to do the same. Through their Christ centered disaster response ministry and growing network of trained and deployable missionaries, CRI is going to areas few dare to go with real results. Originally out of Kansas City, MO with additional operations in Big Bear Lake, California the ministry is holding their Northeast training in Madison, Ohio the week of October 16-21 and attracting attention from New Yorkers willing to answer the call. CRI asks in their invitation to join them for the training, “Does your heart burn to see demonstrations of God’s love and power in the midst of crisis? Do you feel like your life experiences have led you to this moment in time and culminate in responding to crisis at the end of the age? Come join other disaster relief missionaries for a week of  intense preparation as we pioneer this new mission field together and GO reach the harvest in the midst of crisis.”
Training teams in first aid, HAM radio, chaplaincy, healing and deliverance, SOZO, conflict resolution, safe food handling, equipment operations and more (see advertisement on this page), Malone says, “CRI has developed cutting edge training on the issues involved with crisis response that are second to none. Through our simulation trainings we offer hands on experience to equip the believer.” This type of training has helped CRI deploy to areas like Joplin and Haiti bringing the gospel to those with an ear to hear. The truth is, in the midst of a crisis the harvest is ripe for the gospel. People are broken, confused and desperate. When trained missionaries go and share the good news, provide for the physical needs and see God answer prayer for healing emotional and physical pain, God gets the glory and souls are saved. CRI helps those with a willing heart to train, prepare and deploy in a professional way avoiding what they and other professional disaster response personnel refer to as the second disaster—when untrained responders show up expecting to help and end up depleting valuable resources.
CRI also charters the often rough waters of what they call “End Time Theology,” grasping that God can and has initiated disasters throughout history including those in Egypt and other cities as recorded in the Bible. While the ministry does not provide analysis of the disaster they believe it is a Christian responsibility to respond with the gospel.
Malone stated in his recent update to partners, “This season my heart is gripped like never before with the burden to pioneer a new missions movement that will train and mobilize disaster relief missionaries to the harvest field of crisis around the world.” The upcoming Northeast Training takes places in Madison, Ohio October 16-21. Israel Houghton Performs Live

Israel Houghton back stage after performing at Elim Fellowship in Buffalo
BUFFALO, NY--By Kyle Patterson
Four time Grammy Award winner Israel Houghton and band New Breed performed live last night at Elim Fellowship in Buffalo bringing their unique style of rock, jazz, gospel, and intimate worship before a packed crowd at Elim Fellowship's Chalmers Avenue address. Houghton's unique style included performance on the keyboard ushering the crowd into an intimate worship experience, performance on the electric guitar bringing in the jazz/rock feel and lastly Houghton on the mic encouraging the crowd gospel style to believe God for big things and ushering the crowd into exuberant praise and dance-- gospel style. "The atmosphere of expectation is the breeding ground for miracles," he encouraged attendees as he sang the scriptural reference from Ezekiel, "Live"and encouraged the crowd to expect and encourage one another that a miracle is not far away. Houghton performed a wide array of songs including his famous, "Friend of God" and others.

There was a sense of joy and freedom in the sanctuary as Israel and New Breed performed a Tuesday night of praise and worship in one of Buffalo's largest African American churches. Houghton, who also serves as one of the worship leaders at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas (pastored by Joel Osteen) has seen great success in crossing denominational and racial lines within the church, though the racial mix of last night's concert did not reflect that, an ongoing issue of prayer for the Church in Buffalo as urban flight has taken many residence outside of the city center. The 40 year old Houghton's casual style--plaid shirt and hooded sweatshirt, jeans, Ray Ban glasses and goatee helps him reach out to a wide demographic of young, old and in between. World Vision was also in house encouraging attendees to sponsor a child in need and giving worshippers action points of engaging the world with their faith. Houghton is scheduled to perform tonight in the Rochester area at My Father's House at  715 Paul Road Rochester NY 14624.

Houghton also granted UNITE an exclusive interview back stage after the event, portions of the interview will be published in future posts. Houghton told me, "The key to longevity is humility" and explained that the Grammy and Dove awards that he has won are awards that he lays at the feet of Jesus.

Resource Review: Rend Collective Experient & The Road by Tricia Brock

Charting a unique course, Rend Collective Experiment is a group of friends collectively wondering how to make sense of the conundrum of life, God and community.  What Rend Collective Experiment’s 15-plus members add to the conversation are melodies, harmonic progression and lyrics that are scriptural and contemporary, fresh and ancient.

Featuring the lead singer of the best-selling Grammy nominated band Superchick, The Road is a distinctive sounding worship album that blends together original, traditional, and contemporary songs to inspire, challenge and move you closer to God. “These are songs that have lead me into worship through times when I have felt abandoned, broken, angry and confused and taught me that the best place to worship God is when life doesn't make sense and it isn't easy to believe.”

Resource Review: The Ambition by Lee Strobel

Bestselling nonfiction writer Lee Strobel (The Case for Christ) makes his fiction debut with a legal thriller that draws on his background in legal journalism. A corrupt judge in a mob murder case. A disillusioned pastor, hungry for power. A cynical reporter, sniffing for a scandal. A gambling addict whose secret tape threatens the lives of everyone who hears it. Lee Strobel weaves these edgy characters into an intricate thriller set in a gleaming, suburban mega church, a big-city newspaper struggling for survival, and the shadowy corridors of political intrigue. The unexpected climax is as gripping as the contract killing that punctuates the opening scene.

Dr. Bill Winston, founder of Bill Winston Ministries and Living Word Christian Center, a 19,000 member church located in Forest Park, Illinois, and Tuskegee Christian Center in Tuskegee, Alabama spoke last night on what he refers to as "manifesting the Kingdom" and influencing culture for Christ at New Creation Fellowship, located on Genesee Street in Buffalo. Winston is also Founder and Chairman of The Joseph Center® for Business Development, a nationwide school with satellite campuses in various cities across the U.S.--its newest campus is starting in September at New Creation in Buffalo.

Winston highlighted numerous portions of Scripture in his thorough address to a full sanctuary stating encouraging truths like, "The Kingdom of God is given to you to provide a new reality. This Kingdom gives you everything you need independent of the environment you are in," and, "When the light comes on and you catch a glimpse of the truth of God's word you become a revolutionary." Winston also encouraged believers to take their place of authority in God's plan for their life stating, "When God sends you into a place that becomes your jurisdiction."

New Creation Fellowship (NCF) is located at 3325 Genesee Street in Cheektowaga. The church was founded in 1981 by Pastor Stephen J. Andzel and his wife Alice. In 1992, NCF purchased their current home in Cheektowaga, NY - 26,000 square feet situated on ten acres of land. Resource Review: A Love That Multiplies by Michelle & Jim Bob Duggar

In this second book from the Duggars, they focus on the principles that equip them to face life's challenges—drawing from their most recent challenge with the 3-month premature birth of their newest child, Josie. They also share the new challenges their older children are facing as they prepare for adult life. Central to the book is a section on the principles that the Duggars have consistently taught their children. These simply worded principles are basic to the Duggar family and are shared in a way that other parents can incorporate in their own homes. A special chapter on homeschooling gives valuable information to parents who are considering this route or are already invested in it. The world continues to be amazed by their nineteen well-groomed, well-behaved, well-schooled children and their home life, which focuses on family, financial responsibility, fun—and must importantly, faith.

Resource Review: Becoming a Man of Unwavering Faith by John Osteen

During the course of his 60-year ministry, John Osteen combined an extraordinary love for people with a vision for ministry best described in his own words: “No limits.” This hardcover volume not only includes content from John's sermon transcripts, but also a foreword and commentary written by his son, Joel; the principles of this “no limits” faith come alive again for a new generation.
For the moments of struggle and temptation that every man faces, and the times in life when he feels surrounded and under attack, John's message is profoundly simple-those moments are precisely the time for an unwavering faith. In this book, John schools today's believers in qualities of unwavering faith. Osteen also provides principles for those times when faith doesn't seem to be working. Becoming a Man of Unwavering Faith is a guidebook to stronger faith, from a man who spent a lifetime testing its limits.

Resource Review: Through My Eyes by Tim Tebow

Over the course of the last five years, Tim Tebow established himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of college football and a top prospect in the NFL. During that time he amassed an unparalleled resume—winning two BCS national championships, becoming the first sophomore in NCAA history to win the Heisman trophy, and in the face of massive public scrutiny, being drafted in the first round of the NFL draft by the Denver Broncos.
Now, in Through My Eyes, Tebow brings readers everywhere an inspirational memoir about life as he chose to live it, revealing how his faith and family values, combined with his relentless will to succeed, have molded him into the person that he is today. As the son of Christian missionaries, Tebow has a unique story to tell—from the circumstances of his birth, to his home-schooled roots, to his record-setting collegiate football career with the Florida Gators and everything else that took place in between.

Kingdom Bound 2011--It's a Wrap

This year's festival is sure to go down in the books as a memorable one. From Kari Jobe, Casting Crowns, Skillet and Chris Tomlin's closing night performance (after the incredibly long rainstorm) and everything in between, this year's festival did not disappoint.
The thing about Kingdom Bound is there is never a dull moment and plenty of options to keep you busy. At any one given time there are 2-5 different events that one wishes they could attend simultaneously. For example, seminars happening simultaneously included Carol McLeod of Just Joy! everyday at 1:30 (for women only) in the FLN Tent while Ryan Loos of RKL Financial talked money in the WDCX Tent. Jeremy Camp performed live and followed that with a line of autograph signings while Delia Knox (recently healed and walking after years in wheelchair)spoke in the Integrity Worship tent and Bob and Larry of Veggie Tales performed live in the FLN tent (OK I admit I love Veggie Tales and so do my kids :)).
Then you had the choice of what afternoon talk show to listen to from 3-6: WDCX's LifeLine with Kurt Goff along with the free Anderson's Ice Cream and Spot Coffee or FLN's Afternoon Show with Sonny Delfyette and Perry's Ice Cream and generic coffee. Both show's featured a host of artist and speaker interviews attracting those who want a closer view of the people behind the music inspiring them. This isn't even taking into account the vastness of Darien Lake's many ride attractions, the vendor tent with all kinds of cool organizations and products to keep you stimulated for hours and the plethora of people you run into from year's past and present.
Kingdom Bound, proclaimed by Chris Tomlin himself at his closing concert (where Kari Jobe also made a surprise guest appearance) Wednesday night is indeed one of the best Christian festivals in the nation and is no doubt a taste of what's to come. For 4 days, Christians from the Northeast United States and beyond take time out of their busy schedule, lay down their denominational walls, theological barriers and place Christ as King and together with nearly 60,000 others rejoice in our hope in Christ, a foreshadowing of eternity. From young to old, Kingdom Bound once again delivered on their promise to proclaim Christ through the arts and have something for everyone.

7 Must See Events at Kingdom Bound 2011 (Countdown)--Jim and Jill Kelly

Jim and Jill Kelly
Monday 3pm Worship Tent

While Jim and Jill Kelly need no introduction, their story told in New York Times Bestselling book, Without a Word by Jill Kelly has stirred and encouraged the hearts of thousands. Though their son Hunter, born with Krabbe disease suffered and later died, Jim and Jill were able to see God’s divine sovereignty through it all and came to believe in Christ through the pain. Sure to be a great event for those going through pain or who just need reassurance of God’s faithfulness even in the midst of the hardest of situations.
At last year’s event Jim publicly made confession of his faith and confessed his years of straying from the Lord. Now back for the second year in a row, a sure attraction for men and women alike and a great chance to hear a hall of fame quarterback talk about Christ.
